RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY

CHURCH

OUR STATEMENT OF BELIEFS

Riverside Community Church, aka, A House of Prayer for All Nations, is a non-denominational church. In theology, we are Reformed in the sense that we believe in the Sovereignty of God the Spirit, to do His will. In essence, we believe in the fullness of the Spirit to not only produce the fruit of the Spirit (i.e. Christ-likeness), but to also provide gifts of the Spirit (i.e. Christ-like ministry) for edification and the advancement of the Gospel of the Kingdom.

Our main convictions can be summarized in the following Reformation doctrines:

  • Sola Scrptura (Scripture alone):  Our ultimate source of faith and practice is Scripture. This written Word of God (66 canonical books) as originally written, has been inspired by God and is without error. It is the absolute standard for truth in all generations. We seek to glorify God the most as we strive to obey the Scriptural teaching with genuine integrity and diligent study.

  • Sola Fide (Faith alone):  Our eternal salvation is not by works, but by faith alone. The object of this saving faith is Christ alone, whose once-for-all sacrifice alone can bring repentant sinful humanity to a loving relationship with a holy God.

  • Sola Gratia (Grace alone): Our saving faith does not originate from ourselves. It is a sovereign gift of God, not by works, but by the amazing grace of God, which is undeserved. The only thing that sinful humanity deserves is the justice of God. Although grace is free, it is not cheap but costly, and truly amazing.

  • Priesthood of All Believers: Our understanding of the Christian life and ministry is that the work of the Body of Christ is best carried on by all the people of the congregation. Basically, this doctrine says that each member is a minister of God. Therefore, all members at RCC are charged by God to participate in the various ministries to serve and contribute to the spiritual growth of the church.

We also believe in the early 17th century motto:  “In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity”. The essentials that we believe in are summarized in the Apostles Creed (i.e. Belief):

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit; Born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate; Was crucified, dead and
buried; He descended into Hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven; And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; The Holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.
